Big Kids Family Music for Kindergarten and First Graders!
Experience the Joy of Family Music®

* A community of families sharing songs, instrument play, rhythm chants, and movement activities in a relaxed, playful, non-performance oriented setting
* Music learned through developmentally appropriate activities that support and respect the unique learning styles of very young children
* Infants, toddlers, and preschoolers participating at their own levels in family-style classes of mixed ages or classes geared specifically for parents with new babies or preschoolers
* Parents and caregivers contributing to the enrichment of their child's music environment regardless of their own musical abilities
* A new song collection every session, nine in all, featuring great arrangements of original and traditional songs in a wide variety of tonalities, meters and cultural styles
* 45 minutes of PURE FUN with your child every week

Each session includes:

* 10 weekly 45-minute classes teaching a new song collection every fall, winter/spring
* Professional recordings each session with new songs, rhythm chants, "play-alongs" and tonal and rhythm patterns
* Beautifully illustrated songbook with family activities to enjoy at home

Description of Classes

Mixed ages - classes for children birth through 4 years old.  Perfect for families with more than one child

Babies - classes for newborns to 7 months.  This class provides parents with specific appropriate activities for this age group.

Big Kids Family Music - a 60-minute class geared to the interests and social nature of children ages five and six.  Families still play an important part in this class, although the adults and children have different musical roles.  Game songs, folk dances, jam sessions, dramatic play and more structured work in rhythm and tonality will be included.  The class uses materials from the same song collection as the mixed ages class along with materials created specifically for older children.

Center Director: Karen R. Bienz

Karen R. Bienz received her BA in Vocal Performance from Whittier College.  She was first a Music Together® parent with her oldest daughter while living in Philadelphia in 1999.  She was trained by Dr. Lili Levinowitz, Music Together's co-founder and Director of Research, in May of 2000 at a 4 day intensive workshop in Boulder, CO. In the winter of 2001, she opened the center in Laramie to offer her friends and neighbors a program with a rich musical content based on developmentally appropriate methods for the very young.  Karen was certified as a Level I Music Together Instructor at another 4 day intensive training workshop in Denver in January of 2004, and received the Level II Certification at a training in Berkeley California during August of 2006.  During the 2006-2007 school year, Karen taught Music Together classes at both the Montessori Children's House and the Open School in Laramie, furthering the program to include 60 more families.  Karen has taught more than 50 classes with over 350 children participating and declares that teaching this program is her passion and her life's destiny.
